Life after the 100 Day Challenge

I was reading someone’s blog this past week and she mentioned that she took 6 months off after doing a 100 day challenge. Her challenge was abstract painting and she didn’t paint for 6 months after that 100th day! It made me feel so much better because I really needed a break too! The 100 day challenge ended the day I left for Belize. When we got back, I just couldn’t restart the habit. It’s busy season for wedding calligraphy so I always had stuff to work on and I just couldn’t get back into the social media groove. I wasn’t posting on Instagram or Facebook and I definitely wasn’t blogging.

In February I did the really popular Instagram alphabet challenge, the Hand Lettered ABC’s. That really helped me get back to posting and checking my account and being a little more engaged on social media. But then letter X was the same weekend as my marathon and marathon week I couldn’t do much but watch The Crown and sit in the sauna. I had race brain BIG TIME. Just kept staring into space, not really focused on anything. Finally! This past week I finished up. Oh, about 20 days later. (don’t worry about that. 🙂

My favorites are Q, K, and Z. What’s your favorite?

I’m starting to get my mojo back big time so I thought I’d check in and see how everyone was doing! This baby shower invite is one of the most favorite things I’ve ever worked on. The Mom-To-Be painted her nursery inspired from this blog post and it’s the theme of the shower. I geek out on envelope liners and I ended up loving the liner even more than the invite! Look at that cute little bird!

I used all these different color envelopes for the baby shower invites. They looked great next to each other! Love brush lettering with white ink.

doryinvitesquareThe other big thing I’ve been working on is designing my OWN FONT!! I’m so excited, it’s in the final stages. I can’t wait to share it with you guys!! I was able to work on it a lot (and quickly) when it was in the Adobe Illustrator stage. Now that I’m in the Glyphs stage it’s a little more slow going because that’s a brand new application for me. 3 months ago Illustrator was making me insane but thanks to the Hand Lettered ABC’s challenge, I’m flying through that now like no big thing. Besides getting me back into the habit of posting regularly, I used the challenge to gain a better knowledge of Illustrator. It worked. Like a charm. Even though I wanted to throw my computer across the room on multiple occasions. (Gosh, that is not an intuitive program. Photoshop is, so that made learning Illustrator even more frustrating.)

I think that’s it for now!! I’ll be back soon with some more font updates! What have you guys been up too? Any habits you’ve fallen out of that you’re trying to restart?

Hope all is well!

Day 100 of the 100 Day Challenge: {Printable} “Find Your Tribe, Love Them Hard.”

Day 100.

100 days of creating, practicing, writing, blogging, marketing, learning, making, reading, searching.

What a journey this has been. I’m starting to find my voice, I’m starting to be proud of my work, I’m starting to be comfortable letting the world get to know me.

I have changed so much as a writer, blogger, and most importantly a calligrapher. I tried so many new projects and commissions. I said YES to everything that stretched me as a person and artist and NO to everything that didn’t support me physical, emotionally, and financially.

It’s been awesome. I will absolutely continue blogging and showing my work on a regular schedule. Not exactly sure what that schedule is, will have lots of time for reflection these next 2 weeks. Or, as life tends to go, I will MAKE time for reflection these next 2 weeks.

Most importantly, I want to take a moment to thank YOU.

Thank you

  • Thank you for following me on Instagram and Facebook.
  • Thank you for liking my posts and sharing my giveaways.
  • Thank you for telling your friends about my business!
  • Thank you for reading this blog and commenting on my work.
  • Thank you for supporting this journey!

I truly, truly could not have done it without you. I’m thankful from the bottom of my heart.

You are my Tribe.

Thank you. ❤️

Day 99 {Printable} You Will Always Be the Sister of my Soul the Friend of my Heart

Day 99, almost there!

Busy, busy day getting all those final preparations done to go out of town! My shoulders are sore from the vaccinations yesterday, I’m so glad I finally got that done. Was definitely no big deal!

You will always be the sister of my soul the friend of my heart

How much do you love this saying? Gosh, I saw it and had to letter it. One of the envelope orders I did this past weekend used a combination of script lettering and block lettering. I used this style block lettering and haven’t stopped! On the envelopes I spaced everything out pretty far but I mixed and matched the spacing on the print. It’s rare that I write out a quote and have it laid out exactly how I want it, it usually takes me about 10 edits of rearranging. This one though, I wrote it exactly like this and stuck with it! It’s up in the Etsy shop if you’re looking for a gift for a friend!

That’s it for today, gotta keep my productivity streak going. If I sit here too long I’ll get sucked into the vortex that is the internet! 😉

Happy Thursday!

Day 98 {Featured} “I will. Just watch me.” Inspirational digital download for your home.

I’m currently sitting in the waiting area of the CVS MinuteClinic. Ready to get my travel immunizations, finally!!

I have a break in the middle of the day today that I don’t typically have. I brought my computer and camera to work on tonight’s print but the coffee shop I pulled into just happens to share a parking lot with CVS. I was like, “Crap. Go do it.” So here I am! I’m next in line so hopefully it won’t take too long!
I am a little nervous, I never even get a flu shot. I just hope there aren’t any side effects to anything I’m getting. Gotta run long on Friday, after all! Priorities. 😝

I Will. Just Watch Me.

I was searching Pinterest for some good quotes and I really liked this one. I know a lot of people who attack things in their life with a passion that is partially fueled by their desire to prove someone wrong. “He said I couldn’t do it.” “My Doctor said I wouldn’t be able to do it.” “Those girls call me crazy.”

Proving people wrong is awesome, whatever motivates you!

I find a little bitterness in those words though, action fueled by anger and resentment. Probably to a fault, I’m the kind of person that thinks I can do anything because I know I’ll work hard and never give up. So if it’s something I really care about, like learning calligraphy and starting my own business, then I know I can do it! I know I will put in the time and energy and effort.  Only a few people scoffed at me, but I like to think it’s more because it was out of left field, not because they didn’t believe I could do it.

When you quietly put in the work and never give up, you’ll accomplish your goal. Whatever “it” is. I know you will. The time will pass anyways, put the time to the best possible use.

And the truth of the matter is, that person you’re trying to prove wrong…they are watching and they are inspired and ready to try it for themselves. Because of you. ❤️

Hope you had a great day, thanks so much for reading!

Day 97: {Featured} “Boston Qualified” Digital Download for you Home and Office

Starting to wrap up all my projects! I finished all my envelope orders today and got them sent off. Only 2 days until I leave for vacation!  Having fun with a few more running inspired prints for the Etsy shop, today is one to celebrate qualifying for Boston. This past weekend was the Dallas Marathon as well as my favorite race, the BCS Marathon. It was awesome to follow and track friends that were running! I have a friend that qualified for Boston after 3 years of trying, I’m so happy for him!

The first time I qualified it wasn’t by enough to get me into the actual race. The following year though I qualified by 10 minutes, a huge buffer! It was years and years and years of work to get to that point and one of the things I’m the most proud of in my whole life. I had a great race, it was one of those days that no matter what went wrong, I stayed positive and happy and believed. It was freaking awesome.

Crossing the finish line of the BCS Marathon 2014 with my pacer, Stude!

Hope you guys had a great day, thanks so much for checking in! My 100th day is Friday!!

Day 96: {Featured} “Love Running” Digital Download in the shop!

Hashtag Monday amiright?!

It feels like it was 30 hours ago that I went for a run! It’s been a great day, just a little hectic. My run tomorrow is longer than normal, totally not complaining, I love that, it just means I have to start earlier! If I can swing it, I’ll be asleep when this blog post is published. 🙂

I woke up at midnight last night and couldn’t go back to sleep until around 2:00. Does that ever happen to you? I had that damn Hippopotamus for Christmas song in my head and IT. WOULD. NOT. STOP. I am hesitant to even type those words for fear it gets stuck in my head again! I am typically the best sleeper, I’m asleep before my head hits the pillow and I’m out until about 5 minutes before my alarm goes off. I try never to stress when I have nights like last night because they are so rare. I have friends that really struggle with getting regular sleep so I am super thankful I normally do!

Love Running

I couldn’t decide on a running print so I made two! My shop, my rules! 🙂 Can you even have too many prints that proclaim your love of running? I don’t think so. Which one do you like best?? I love the blue watercolor heart. I made a pink one too but I like this one better.
